Superman is the world's first and greatest superhero, as well as one of the most iconic American characters of all time. Created by writer Jerry Siegel and artist Joe Shuster in the 1930s, he first appeared in Action Comics #1 in June 1938. Following his success, a wave of copycats, starting with Batman, were created, spawning the Superhero Genre. Over the years, Superman has had four TV series, eight movies, dozens of cartoons and hundreds of comic books. His supporting cast usually includes Lois Lane, his parents, the staff of the Daily Planet, Lex Luthor and various supervillians.

In nearly all of his origins, Superman was born Kal-El on the planet Krypton, the son of scientists Jor-El and Lara. Sent to Earth as an infant to save him from their planet's destruction, he landed in Smallville, where he was found and adopted by Jonathan and Martha Kent. Renamed Clark Kent, he discovered his incredible powers. Clark moved to Metropolis as an adult, and got a job as a reporter at the ''Daily Planet'', alongside fellow reporter Lois Lane among others. Clark uses his amazing abilities to fight for truth, justice and the American way as the Man of Steel, Superman!
